May 30, 1951 was Memorial Day on a Wednesday which was celebrated on the 30th of May not as a long weekend as today. It was Joe DiMaggio's last year as a Yankee. Drove to Fenway with my parents from Pawtucket, RI for a Sox-Yankee DH on a warm sunny day. What could be better!
The first game went 15 innings with Vern Stevens homering to end the game which took on 4 hr 19 min. The Sox took the second game 9 to 4. Ted Williams went 7 for 13 in the two games with two singles, three doubles, a triple and a home run. Joe D. went 4 for 10 with two singles, a triple and a home run. Seeing both Ted a Joe both hitting a triple and a home run each was a great thrill for a young boy!
Appreciate being able to download those two games which I have thought about many times over the years.
